The short answer

What does baseboard installation include?

Baseboard installation covers measuring and cutting trim to fit each wall, nailing it in place along the bottom of the wall, filling nail holes and caulking the seams, then finishing with paint-ready caulk lines. It is usually done right after new flooring goes in, since the baseboard covers the expansion gap left at the wall, but it can also be installed on its own to update trim without touching the floor.

Baseboard is the last piece of trim that makes a floor installation look finished, and it does more than sit there for looks. It covers the expansion gap every floating floor needs at the wall, protects the bottom of drywall from scuffs and vacuum bumps, and gives a room a clean, finished line between the wall and the floor.

MS Floors & Cleaning installs baseboard as part of every flooring job, resetting trim that is still in good shape or installing new baseboard where the old trim is damaged, outdated, or does not match the new floor height. Baseboard installation is also offered as its own service for homeowners updating trim without replacing the floor underneath it.

Getting a clean result comes down to fit: corners cut at the right angle, long runs pieced together where a wall is too long for one board, and a tight seam against the wall and the floor so there is no visible gap once it is painted.

What is included

Baseboard Installation, start to finish

Removal of old baseboard

Existing baseboard carefully pried off the wall and set aside or disposed of, with drywall checked for damage once the trim is off.

Measuring and cutting

Each wall measured individually and baseboard cut to fit, with inside and outside corners coped or mitered for a tight joint.

Fitting around obstacles

Baseboard cut and fitted around door casings, vents, and other obstacles so the trim line stays continuous and clean.

Installation

Baseboard nailed into the wall studs or base plate along the bottom of every wall in the room, sitting flush against both the wall and the new flooring.

Nail holes and seams filled

Nail holes filled with wood filler and seams between boards and corners caulked, so nothing shows once it is painted.

Caulk line at the floor

A clean caulk line run where the baseboard meets the floor on hard surface rooms, closing any small gap for a finished look.

Paint-ready finish

Baseboard left filled, caulked and sanded where needed so it is ready for paint, whether that is done by MS Floors & Cleaning's team or by others.

Flooring Installation

Baseboard installation is included with every flooring job MS Floors & Cleaning completes in Orlando and the surrounding cities.

How it works

How our baseboard installation works

01

Measure and plan

Every wall in the room is measured, and the baseboard profile and length needed are planned out, including how corners and long runs will be pieced together.

02

Remove old trim

Existing baseboard is pried off carefully to avoid drywall damage, and the wall base is checked and cleaned before new trim goes up.

03

Cut and install

Baseboard is cut to length with mitered or coped corners, fitted around doorways and vents, and nailed into place flush against the wall and the new floor.

04

Fill, caulk and finish

Nail holes are filled, seams and corners are caulked, and the floor line is sealed with a clean caulk bead so the trim is ready for paint.

Baseboard versus quarter round

Baseboard and quarter round solve a similar problem but look different and get used in different situations. Baseboard is a flat board, usually 3 to 5 inches tall, installed as the main trim along every wall, and it is what most Orlando homes already have throughout the house.

Quarter round is a small, rounded strip sometimes added at the bottom edge of the baseboard specifically to close the expansion gap on a floating floor like laminate or engineered hardwood, without having to pull the baseboard itself off the wall. It works, but it adds a visible second piece of trim at the floor line. Removing the baseboard, installing the new floor, and resetting the baseboard tight against it gives a cleaner single trim line, and that is the approach used whenever the baseboard is in good enough condition to come off and go back on.

When to replace baseboard instead of reinstalling it

Baseboard that is in solid shape, with no major dents, water damage, or warping, can often be removed carefully during a flooring job and reinstalled once the new floor is down. This saves the cost of new trim and keeps the existing paint color if it still matches.

Replacement makes more sense when the old baseboard is damaged, has been painted over many times to the point the profile is lost, does not match the new floor height, or came out broken during removal, which happens more often with older, brittle trim. A new floor is also a natural point to size up to a taller baseboard profile if the current trim looks thin for the room.

One team, both jobs

Fresh baseboards and new floors make the biggest difference when the rest of the room is just as clean. MS Floors & Cleaning's move-in and move-out cleaning covers baseboards, floors and every surface so the space is ready to show or ready to live in.

Baseboard Installation: common questions

Baseboard removal and reinstallation is part of a standard flooring job. New baseboard, instead of reinstalling the old trim, is scoped separately depending on the condition of the existing baseboard and what the homeowner wants.
Yes, baseboard installation is available as its own service for homeowners updating trim, fixing damaged sections, or changing the baseboard profile without touching the floor underneath.
Floating floors like laminate and some engineered hardwood need a small expansion gap at every wall to move with humidity changes. The baseboard sits slightly above the floor to cover that gap rather than sealing tight against it.
Matching the existing profile and height is part of the plan during the walkthrough, whether the original baseboard is being reinstalled or new trim is going in to match the rest of the home.
Baseboard is installed filled, caulked and sanded to a paint-ready finish. Whether the final paint coat is included depends on what is scoped for the job, which is confirmed during the walkthrough.
Older or brittle baseboard sometimes cracks or splits when it is pried off the wall. When that happens, that section is replaced with matching new trim so the room still ends up with a consistent, finished line.
